The Intro To A New Way Of Life

The introduction sets the foundation for the entire course. You’ll learn why preparation matters, how dogs perceive babies, and what realistic expectations should look like when introducing a newborn into the home.

This module also includes an important disclaimer, ensuring you understand the limits of training, supervision requirements, and safety considerations when dogs and babies are together.

MODULE 2

Crate Training

This module focuses on using the crate as a safe, positive, and reliable management tool, not a punishment. You’ll learn how to properly introduce the crate, build confidence and calm behaviour inside it, and use it effectively once your baby arrives.

The training is broken down step-by-step, covering:

• Entering and exiting the crate calmly

• Adding clear commands

• Building distance, duration, and impulse control

• Teaching thresholds and boundaries

• Gradually adding real-life distractions

By the end of this module, your dog should be able to go to the crate calmly from a distance, even during stressful or busy moments, something that becomes invaluable with a newborn in the home.

MODULE 3

Place Training

Place training teaches your dog how to settle calmly on a designated spot (such as a bed or mat) while remaining relaxed and disengaged from the baby.

This module covers:

• What the place command is and why it matters

• How to introduce it using clear guidance

• Adding verbal commands

• Building distance and duration

• Gradually increasing distractions

Place training gives you another powerful management option, helping your dog remain calm and predictable during feeding times, baby care routines, and everyday household activity.

MODULE 4

Baby Exercises

This module brings everything together by introducing realistic baby-based scenarios. These exercises are designed to safely prepare your dog for sights, sounds, movements, and routines that come with a newborn and growing baby.

You’ll work through scenarios such as:

• Changing your baby

• Crying sounds and repetition

• Controlled exposure around baby equipment

• Walking with a pram (with and without the baby)

• Using crate and place commands around a real baby

• Understanding when free roam is appropriate—and when it isn’t

• Preparing for crawling, movement, and feeding stages

This module emphasises management, structure, and safety, reinforcing that freedom is earned and that proactive training prevents stress for both dog and parents.
